Charles Horner Greer Macafee was born in Omagh, Northern Ireland. In 1921 he graduated in medicine from the Queen's University of Belfast with first-class honours. He was appointed to the chair of midwifery and gynaecology at Queen's in 1945 and held this position until his retirement in 1963. He was an accomplished obstetrician, gynaecological surgeon and teacher. He was a founding Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, serving as Vice-President from 1961-64.
